In 2017 I was asked by the local Lululemon stores to collaborate on a project to highlight some of the men in the Houston area doing amazing things for the community from all walks of life. It was part of a larger movement in the company to promote their new men’s line of clothing, and I needed to make it look on-brand with their international campaign, but still make it my own. They originally got the idea from my Heroes on White project that I had been doing over the previous year beforehand, so I had the idea to shoot some portraits on a white backdrop that spoke to their personality, create a larger banner with all of the men on it, shoot a Heroes style portrait with each man, and create a little 1-3 minute spot with each of them on what it means to be “the modern day man”. We had to create each of these looks in about a 15 minute window to setup and planning was key, as was capturing a real portrait of each of them in the time allotted. Pre-production is key y’all!
